From Ezra Stevens' "Early History of the Town of Milford", 1773-1903

"Jonathan Sweet was born in Rhode Island, as also was his wife, Mary Brimer Jones. His children were as follows: Amos, Abel, Sibyl, Nancy, Freeborn, Jeremiah, Margaret Mary and Rosanna. All came to Milford about 1800.

Amos, the eldest, married Patients Eldred, daughter of Thomas Eldred who also came from Rhode Island.

Children of Amos and Patients were Stephen, Hiram, Amos Jr., Mary, George W., Albert, Nancy, Eliza, John, Caroline, Sibyl, James and Jane."

"Amos Sweet, Sr., purchased the farm on the road to Edson Corners, sold to William Kirby, then bought the Colonel John Moore farm now owned and occupied by his grandson, Dorr Sweet. Mr. Sweet died on the same farm."

            "Amos Sweet, b- Rhode Island, 1784, son Jonathan Sweet, a native of East Greenwich, RI,                  who settled in Milford township prior to 1800 and did much to advance the interests of the                  pioneers; settled on land where a part of Milford village now stands.  The elder Sweet died in              Oneida County; Amos dying May 13, 1863, in Milford, where he passed practically all his                  life.  Patience Eldred b. Rhode Island, 1784 d. Milford 1857, the mother of thirteen children.  
             Issue of Adeline and John, 3 ch:  Dorr, Grace, May 
             HOWEVER - page 57 shows:  ....In or before 1800, Jeremiah Sweet came from East Greenwich, RI and settled with his son, Amos, and the son's wife, Patience Eldred also of RI, on land which is now a part of Milford Village.  Jonathan(back to Jonathan) was active in promoting the interests of the pioneers. )

FSFT shows Amos Sweet b. 15 Mar 1784 in Berlin is the son of  Jonathan Sweet and Margaret Elizabeth Jones OR Amos Sweet and Mercy Carpenter OR Amos Sweet and Dorcas.

Find a Grave:  Jonathan Sweet b. 16 May 1755 East Greenwich, Kent, RI, d. 11 Feb 1836 Marcy, Oneida, NY.  Married Mary Ann Sweet (probably Brimmer above).  Children:  Abel, Nancy Sweet Bently 1779-1844, Amos 1784-1863, Freeborn 1810-1881.  Aged 80 years, 8 mos, 26 dys.
