Dorcas and Amos

Amos Sweet and Dorcus are presumably the parents of Sarah Grace Sweet.

After years of researching I have never found a primary source that states this and the oldest source we have is from Nora Wood Carter (1878-1960), a daughter of Wellington, who was the son of Sarah.

Sarah's parents were Amos Sweet and Dorcas and that they were living in Hoosick, Rensselaer, New York at the time of her birth.

This information is the reason I research the two names Amos Sweet and Dorcas.

                     ****************************************************

Name

Early records only show her as Dorcas, including the 1930's LDS proxy ordinances.  Then pedigree charts date back to before 1975, where she was just referred to as Dorcus as well.

Sarah Graces Initiatory and Endowment was completed live on 30 May 1856 in the Endowment House.  Research from that ordinance may possibly give us as close as we can get with a primary source showing her parents.

Proxy records of the Salt Lake Temple Records dated 19 April 1930 show Dorcas' birth 1770 of Hoosick, Rensselaer, New York. She is the fifth entry down "Sweet, Mrs. Dorcas".

LDS FHL Film #183531 Salt Lake 19 April 1930 Baptisms    Proxy was Dottie L. Nelson, unknown to me

Later the name Mary was added resulting in Mary Dorcas.  No source to this change can be found.  However, Sarah Grace Sweet, Dorcas and Amos' daughter, had a daughter they named "Mary Dorcas Sweet" (1833-1855) presumably after her grandmothers  Mary Jenkins Warren and Dorcas _______ Sweet.

I believe the subject here and grandmother to Mary Dorcas was simply Dorcas.

Another proxy Salt Lake Temple record, dated 22 May 1930, shows Dorcas' Initiatory and Endowment with the name "Sweet, Mrs. Dorcas" although the informant would have the same information as when the baptism was done.

Amos is the male, Dorcas a female with one other female in the family.  Who is she?  One of their mothers or a daughter?

Research clue:  Check out the Family Bible donated to DUP in Springville Presentedb Abbie Ashcraft from her Great Great Grandmother Sarah Sweet, who received it from her mother.  It cam over with some of the first Pilgrims that came from England.

Fun Research Hint:  Sarah Grace has a Bible that was donated to the Springville DUP Museum, seen in an image in FamilySearch Memories for Sarah Grace of Teresa Ricketts holding it.  She states that "it was so tight, we couldn't even see a date in it, flagging through it careful it was a bible, but couldn't see anything written in it." There is lots of  information about the Warren Family at this museum.
