Looking for our Amos Sweet - 2019
We have spent years looking for our Amos Sweet, husband to Dorcas (possibly Mary Dorcas with unknown last name). They are the parents of Sarah Grace Sweet, who married Daniel Wood. *See right hand notes for more known details.
Our Amos - husband of Mary Dorcas (possibly just Dorcas) unknown surname, unknown parentage
Amos Sweet - b. (ca. 1768-1773)
Dorcas or Mary Dorcas ____ - b. (ca. 1771-1775)
Amos Sweet - b. about 1791
Elias Sweet - b. 1784 d. 1832
Sarah Grace Sweet - b. 1799 d. 1863
Lydia Sweet - b. about 1802, d. 1885
In the process, we have been able to discover this Amos is not our ancestor. This couple is having children at the same time as our Amos and Dorcas, and this Amos becomes Amos from Canada. The early research shows Canada Amos' dates on our ancestor. We have been able to prove that those dates belong to Canada's Amos and not ours.
Amos Sweet - b. 5 Mar 1766 Kingston, RI, d. 10 May 1838 Dunham, Quebec, Canada
Mercy Carpenter - b. ca 1768 d. 14 Nov 1828, Dunham, Quebec, Canada
Benjamin abt 1788 d. bef 1863
I believed for some time that this Amos was 'our Amos'. However upon finding a school record listing his children, I no longer believe this man is ours. Amos undoubtedly lived for a time in Rensselaer County, New York, and then moved, as did his father David to Beekman, Dutchess, New York.
Amos Sweet - b. 26 Dec 1755 East Greenwich, RI d. of Beekman, Cayuga, New York
married ?
children: (from a school record Amos of Beekman Noxon's school Nov 1795-1796, gender and counts fitting well with 1790 census)
Rufus
Mary
David
Amos Jr.
George
This Amos appears to have been born and died in Attleboro, Bristol, MA.
Amos Sweet - b. 30 Jun 1766 Attleboro, MA d.
Sally Sweet - b. mar. - 16 Jun 1796
Clarrissa - b. 3 Oct 1796
Summer - b. 27 May 1800
Margareet - b. 14 Feb 1802
Amos - b. 3 Dec 1804
Hannah - b. 19 Feb 1810
Hannah - b.24 Aug 1810
Joabert - b. 3 Jan 1812
Joabert - b. 1 Oct 1818
By reason of well documented wife and children, born in Attleboro, MA, we can safely rule this man out as 'our Amos'. Although I believed Amos and Hannah lived in Attleboro their entire lives a theory that he spent some time
