  1. Hello. I am David Waterman of Dryden, NY. I am a local amateur historian searching for the Amos Sweet who was the first settler of this Military Tract town in 1797. He was only here for 3-4 years but this is the Amos Sweet of the Ulysses 1800 census. Dryden was still part of Ulysses at that time. Your census data on him disagrees with mine. I have 42010 11010 0, which keeps him under 45. Can't seem to verify this on line but I will check the copy at the local Historical Society. You might check your source. I am thinking Dryden's Amos is son of Amos Elias of Attleboro, and he went back to Attleboro after his bad experience in Dryden with a defective title, but it only works with my version of the census. If so, there is quite a story to tell, that fits other census data and various other anecdotal information I have gathered.
Thrilled to run across your blog.

  2. I double checked this census as you suggested. It truly is difficult to tell which line on the second page pairs up with the ones on the first page so I counted down from the top of the page and ended up with 4 2 0 0 1 1 1 0 1 0. Take another look at it and let me know what you think.
